Pug FAQ

What does CKC mean?
CKC stands for the Continental Kennel Club, one of two organizations registering dogs in the United States.  The other registry is AKC - the American Kennel Club.  Both are very well established registries, although the AKC has been around longer and more people are familiar with them.  The Lazy R Ranch's pugs are CKC registered.   Some of our girls carry both AKC and CKC registrations.  However, our sire - Peanut - is CKC registered and, therefore, all our puppies are eligible for CKC registration.  If you want a pug simply for a family pet, registration may not be important to you (although it is very inexpensive - currently a one-time fee of $12).  However, if you ever want to breed, show or think you may want to sell your pug in the future, getting it registered IS an important step.  The Lazy R Ranch will provide you with the paper you need to register your new puppy.

What colors do pugs come in?
Pugs come in three colors:  silver, fawn and black.  The fawn pugs at Lazy R are Peanut and Jasmine.  Sissy is the Lazy R Ranch's only black pug.  Silver pugs are fairly rare and the Lazy R Ranch does not have one.  A black pug and a fawn pug breed may produce a litter with black puppies or fawn puppies.  Shades of fawn will vary from a very pale tan to a warm apricot.  Pugs should have a clear black mask on their "smashed" faces and a black line running down their back . Some pugs will have additional black tips to their coat.

How big do they get?
Pugs are considered a small breed and are typically betweeen 10 and 20 pounds.  They have square and compact bodies.

How much do they cost?
Lazy R Ranch pugs sell for $500.  A $250 deposit will hold your choice of puppy until weaning.  Puppies are sold first come, first served, based on receipt of deposit.  All our litters sell out well before weaning.  Payments are accepted by Paypal (additional fee applies), cashiers check or cash.

How old do puppies have to be to go home?
Lazy R Ranch pugs are typically able to go to their new home at about 7 weeks of age.  However, each litter will be evaluated individually.  Puppies will not be allowed to go home with their new owners until they are eating solid puppy food well.  Lazy R Ranch weans its puppies (takes them off their mother's milk completely) at approximately 5 weeks of age.  We start introducing solid food as soon as their baby teeth come in -- at approximately 3 1/2 - 4 weeks old.

When is the next litter of puppies due?
Timing of litters is completely up to our pugs.  Therefore, we cannot tell you in advance when we will have a litter.  We announce litters only AFTER they are born and stablized.

Do you have Puggles or Bassugs?
Lazy R Ranch is not currently breeding any hybrids (Puggle = Pug / Beagle hybrid, Bassug = Basset Hound / Pug hybrid, Bug = Boston Terrier / Pug hybrid)

What is the Pug Waiting List?
The Pug Waiting List is the place to be if you are interested in a puppy from a future Lazy R Ranch litter.  Use the Contact Us page to provide your e-mail address.  When a litter is born and has stablized (usually at about 1 week old), Lazy R Ranch will send an e-mail to everyone on the Pug Waiting List announcing the litter.  At that point, deposits will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis to reserve a puppy.  The order the deposit is received is the order in which the selection of a puppy will take place.  Pictures will be sent to those considering making a deposit to assist in making a decision on which puppy to pick.  Already found a pug elsewhere?  Just send an e-mail via our Contact Us page and ask to be taken off the Waiting List and we won't bother you with further e-mails.
